  1. I checked out the blog that you posted about. It looks great. I have a question for you about coconut. Is it allowed in the diet? It was used in one of the recipes.

    Thanks

  2. Hello. Thank you for posting. From my understanding, coconut is high in tyramine, like nuts, so it should be avoided. I hope you can enjoy some of the other recipes.

  3. Have you heard anything about dragon fruit being a trigger? It is a tropical fruit that is from a cactus...I am on vacation in Hawaii and would love to try some but am not willing to stray from the diet and end up with a big ol migraine=) My husband says it tastes like a mild kiwi (but is not a kiwi type fruit).

  4. Ooh, Hawaii! That sounds like a blast. I haven't heard of dragon fruit being a problem, but I don't know for sure. I googled some sites as a precaution and still didn't find much, except that possibly the skin might contain it? So, if I were you I would try it out while you can. I mean, why not? Be sure to stay away from passion fruit, though. Have a great time!

  6. Hi Diana. Yes, I just visited your site, and the recipes look wonderful! I might have to visit the restaurant you visited on your birthday date. I never seem to realize when my own birthday is approaching either - too many other things going on, and my focus is usually on my family when I have free time. I completely understand where you are coming from. Nice to meet another KC blogger interested in healthy foods!

  7. Hi Heidi, I just found HYH and your site and and very excited about both. I am vegetarian and have been eating many raw foods e.g., fruits and vegetables for breakfast. Have you seen that eating vegetables raw have been a trigger?

  8. Hi Debbie. Some patients do find that they handle their vegetables better after they have been cooked a little bit. You might try it to see if it helps your headaches. I'm sure you know this, but be sure to eat vegetables on the allowable list. Also, patients with IBS symptoms tend to fare better with vegetables that have been steamed or boiled just a little bit, but not cooked to oblivion. Hope that helps. Thanks for posting, and I'm sorry for the delay.

  9. Hi Heidi,

Thanks for producing a site to help people with migrane, its a great idea.
I wonder if you could advise me on a couple of things:
    1. Is Quorn ok to eat
    2. Are yeast and / or dried yeast ok? (I know that yeast extract isnt)

    Thanks

  10. Hello Paul,

Quorn is made mostly of mycoprotein, which is basically a fermented fungus. It is very high in not only MSG, but tyramine. The Quorn products in the UK look to be healthier than the products in the USA, at least by looking at the ingredients, but still not safe for headaches. There are still flavorings added to help with taste or the products wouldn't taste like chicken or sausage, or whatever it is they are supposed to taste like. Sorry about that. I've been working on some vegetarian friendly recipes lately (mostly with beans), and I hope to have them up soon.

Yeast itself is okay as long as it isn't freshly risen. For instance, after baking yeast-risen bread, wait about 24-48 hours to eat it. It's when the yeast is modified that you run into problems. This, again, would be a sign of MSG and possibly tyramine. I hope that helps. Thanks for writing in.
